How to breed a new disease: import pigs from other countries, crowd them and wait

A serious theory says that 2009 H1N1 may have been man-made after all, with pigs bred in Mexico from stock imported from China and the U.S. serving as a living culture medium.  This could well be a segway to a brave new world of factory-farmed illnesses.  Cows bred a virulent strain of E. Coli, and now birds and pigs have teamed up to build a better flu.

It is past time to pull back from the brink and renounce interference in the lives of harmless creatures.  If we fail to cast off animal food production, they will take vengeance on us with their very flesh and bones.  They have only one weapon to strike at us, and that is our own cruelty and covetousness.  Not this time, but maybe next time, of the time after, they will strike us a mortal wound.
