Killing me softly with your food

The irony of the most bountiful agricultural system on the planet causing a worldwide epidemic is not lost on Nicholas D. Kristof.   Even more shocking is the fundamental realization that the only obligation of a food company is to make money, completely aside from your own well-being.  Big agribusiness, quite frankly, does not care if you live a healthy, long life or die of congestive heart failure, as long as they can defend their profits.

Now is the time to call for a new culture of responsibility, not just the current scheme foisted on the public, but an ethical responsibility to provide healthy food for all.  Otherwise, the global recession we are enduring now is just the first ripple in the coming health care system collapse.   Like the President is fond of noting, the number one cause of bankruptcy is the high cost of health care.
